Kerb and edge solutions

In the Netherlands, the specifications drawn up for public space construction projects usually comply with the specification system for works of civil engineering constructions (the RAW system) - a set of legal, administrative and technical conditions for drafting contracts in the groundwork, road and hydraulic engineering sector. The RAW system forms the basis for preparing specifications following a standardised, uniform method.

According to the RAW system, filler pavers smaller than half a standard clay paver cannot be used in the Netherlands in connection with the paving stability. However, the use of smaller filling pavers is sometimes allowed by Dutch clients provided they are specially made or sawn. In a situation in which a filling paver would be used there are alternatives that would enable materials to be used more efficiently. This obviously also helps to reduce the costs. The following pages show solutions for kerbs and edging that provide insight into the way in which filler pavers are used in the Netherlands in accordance with the RAW system, but also alternative solutions that are more efficient and less costly.
